Kerala style rasam
Delicious simple rasam made Kerala style with no rasam podi and no dal , just flavours of pepper, ginger, garlic coming through .
Firstly it is not only super yum with rice and a pappadam . but a simple soul food from Gods own country .
Furthermore Rasam is made in different ways and this is the simplest way that anyone can enjoy without any pre made podis or cooked dal .
Recipe Ingredients and method : ( If preparing for Sadya , avoid garlic )
Coarsely crush 1 tsp pepper , ginger , garlic cloves , some shallots are also used , I omitted that .
In a vessel add 1 tbsp coconut oil . 1/2 tsp cumin , curry leaves , the crushed ginger garlic ,
2 roughly chopped tomatoes , salt , sautee these in oil ,
then add all powders , turmeric powder, 1 tsp coriander powder , crushed pepper powder , asafoetida powder, coriander leaves ,
2 cups water initially, give a good boil , then add Tamrind water , boil well ,
if mixture is thick , dilute with boiling water .
Add tempering in ghee or coconut oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds,
1/4 tsp methi seeds ,
curry leaves,
2 red chillies , pour over prepared rasam ,
garnish generously with coriander leaves .
That’s it ! Delicious Kerala style rasam is ready .
