A simple delcious lunch that we enjoyed :
A sumptuous lunch with my favourite dishes .
☘️drumsticks moong dal coconut 🥥 curry

☘️Aval Puttu ( red Poha puttu )
Recipe for the drumsticks moong dal coconut curry .
Ingredients
Few Chopped drumsticks
1 tomato chopped
1/2 cup cooked moong dal.
1/2 cup grated coconut
2 slit green chilies
1 tsp cumin seeds
Pinch of turmeric powder
Pinch of asafetida powder
1 tsp chili powder
Salt
Curry leaves
For tempering
1 tsp coconut @ oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
2 broken red chilies
Few curry leaves
Method
Cook drumsticks in very little water along with
chopped tomato, slit green chilies, pinch of asafetida powder .
Add turmeric powder.
Meanwhile grind coconut , cumin seeds , red chili powder with 1 tsp rice flour to a smooth paste.
Add the cooked moong dal to the 3/4 th cooked. drumsticks, dilute if needed.
Add salt, add the ground paste.
Keep flame on low after adding the coconut paste .
Allow to come to one gentle boil .
Switch off.
Temper with coconut oil, splutter mustard seeds, red chilies, few curry leaves, add to prepared sambar .
Makes excellent side dish for rice
or idli dosa.
Avarakkai thoran
Ingredients :
3 cups chopped flat beans ( avarakkai )
1 cup grated coconut .
1/4 cup chopped onion. ( skip for navarathri )
Chopped green chillies .
Some curry leaves .
pinch of turmeric powder.
Salt.
1 tbsp coconut oil
For tempering :
1 tbsp coconut oil.
1/2 tsp mustard seeds .
1/2 tsp split udad dal.
2-3 red chillies.
Curry leaves.
Method :
Take a bowl .
Add 3 cups chopped avarakkai /flat beans to a bowl .
Add 1 cup grated coconut.
1/4 cup chopped onion .( skip for navarathri )
chopped green chillies.
Some curry leaves .
Pinch of turmeric powder.
Salt .
1 tbsp coconut oil .
Mix all these well with a spatula.
Take a pan add 1 tbsp coconut oil .
Add 1/2 tsp mustard seeds.
1/2 tsp split udad dal .
Red chillies.
Curry leaves .
Add the mixed beans and coconut mixture to the pan and cook by adding sprinkles of water .
Within minutes the avarakkai thoran is ready.
Tip :
Add chopped avarakkai /flat beans to a cooker, add 3-4 tbsp of water,pinch of salt, give only one whistle , remove immediately by releasing pressure carefully, drain the varakkai .
take a kadi , add coconut oil , splutter mustard seeds, udad dal , 2 red chilies, curry leaves, pinch of turmeric powder, add the drained avarakkai , do not cover.
next prepare a coarse coconut paste of grated coconut 3-4 green chilies, add this mixture to the pan , mix well , add salt if needed , remove the thoran .
By cooking the beans in cooker , it retains the green colour .
To prepare this yummy soft quick puttu .
dry roast poha in a pan , till crispy . cool and grind to a sooji/rava consistency .
Remove the poha powder to a bowl.
add hot water little by little till all the powder is well moistened, cover amd allow to rest .
then mix well with fingers to see the the poha powder has become sfot and fluffy . now add grated fresh coconut , pinch of cardamommpowder .
next add jaggery poder, mix well , add ghee fried cashews to the puttu ,mix well again add 1 more tbsp oif hot ghee for extra aroma and taste .
delicious poha puttu is ready , you can also use red rice aval flakes, or millet flakes to prepare this delsious healthy puttu .
