Non fried bread bondas
For those craving bread Bonda a or just plain besan Bonda or batata Vada , you can try the Paniyaram pan method to shallow fry .
During the week , I .used some left over bread slices , added mashed potatoes, some spices, , coated with thin besan batter, made yummy bread bondas in paniyaram pan ..
these can be used in vada paav recipe too ..
very little oil , no deep frying , i didnt miss anything ..
Ingredients
Bread slices as required
1 tbsp chopped green chilies
1 tsp curry leaves finely chopped
3 cooked potatoes mashed well
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp garlic ginger paste
Pinch of turmeric powder.
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.
1 cup besan / chickpea flour
3-4 tbsp oil for the appe pan / Paniyaram pan .
Method
To a bowl add mashed potatoes
Add all spices and salt
Make small balls if these to fit the Paniyaram pan .
Take bread slice , moisten it with drops of water
Place the potato ball in the centre . Roll the bread slice with the centre filling and shape into a small ball .
Prepare as many as you will need , meanwhile, prepare a semi thick batter of besan , chili powder and salt .
Dip each prepared bread ball in the besan mixture and place in the Paniyaram pan which must be heated with drops of oil in each cavity . Keep flame on medium . Turn the ball in each cavity with a thin stick or a spoon so that the bread Bonda gets cooked all over .
Remove and enjoy as it is or place it in between buns and enjoy as Vada pav .
