Navarathri

Navarathri is celebrated not once, but five times a year — Vasanta Navarathri (from March-April), Ashadha Navarathri (June-July), Sharada Navarathri

(September-October), Paush Navarathri (December-January) and Maha Navarathri (January-February).

Navarathri Day 1

On the first day of Navarathri Devi Durga is worshipped as Baala in Kanya Puja orMaheshwari .It is believed the Godess slayed the demons Madhu and Kaidaba .

Devi : Maaheswari

Flower :Malligai / Jasmine and Vilvam are used for pooja ,

Neivedhyam :Ven pongal and Karamani sundal are perfect offerings as neivediyam .

It is said that singing songs in Thodi raaga will please the Godess.

Thithi : Pradhamai

Kolam :Arisi maavaal (rice flour) pottu kolam poda vendum.(Draw rangoli by using rice flour.)

Raagam : Thodi Raagam

Navarathri Day 2

On day 2 Godess Kowmaari or Rajarajeswari is worshipped .

Devi: Kowmaari

Flower:Sevvarali, Jasmine and Tulasi used for pooja

Neivedhyam: Puliyodharai, puttu and mangoes can be offered as ideal neivediyam .

Thithi: Dwitheeyai

Kolam: maavinal kolam . (Draw rangoli by using wet flour.)katta kolam before puja .

Raagam:kalyaani has a special significance on this day .

Slokam: Om Siki vaahanaaya vidhmahe

Navarathri Day 3

The Godess is worshipped as Varaahi / Varali Ambigai .

Devi: Vaaraahi

Flower:Champangi, /shenbakam, champangi and Marikozhunthun are ideal for pooja .

Neivedhyam:Sakkarai pongal and Ellu podi are perfect Neivediyam on this day .

Thithi:thrutheeyai

Kolam:malar kolam poda vendum . (Draw rangoli by using flowers-pookolam.) or use rice flour to make flower patterns like rose and lotus .

Raagam:Songs in raga kaambhodhi can be sung on this day to please the Godess.

Navarathri Day 4

On this day The Godess is worshipped as Lakshmi . Padi kolam in rice flour or in shape of steps , with a mixture of rice flour, kasthuri turmeric powder / kasturi manjal and ghee is considered auspicious .

Devi: Lakshmi

Flower: JaathiMalli, it is believed the fragramce of jaathi malli and rose is most pleasing to the Gpdess.

Neivedhyam:Kadhamba Saadham, curd rice , green peas or ground nut sundal , or lemon rice as neivediyam .

Thithi:chathurthi

Kolam:Atchadhai kondu padikattu pola kolamida vendum (Draw rangoli in shape of steps by using atchatai (mix of rice,turmeric,ghee.))

Raagam:bhairavi/ songs in this raaga will please the Godess immensely.

Slokam: Om Padma Vaasinyai cha Vidhmahe

Navarathri Day 5

The Godess is worshipped in the form of Vaishnavi . She can be adorned as Mohini also .

Rangoli with bengal gram flour , designs in form of birds will be ideal .

Flower: Pavazha Malli / Paarijaatham & Mullai/ considered most auspicious as offerings for pooja .

Neivedhyam: Curd Rice, ven pongal, payasam, mocha payir sundal

Thithi: panchami

Kolam: kadalai maavaal paravai kolam poda vendum (Draw a bird like rangoli by using Bengal gram flour.)

Raagam:panchamaavaranai keerthanai paada vendum in raga .bandhuvaraali

Navarathri Day 6

On this day Godess is worshipped as Indraani , and her adornment can be in the form of Chandi Devi .

Decorate the Godess in red silk , adorn her with red stone studded ornaments. While drawing kolam , write her name in Bengal gram flour .

Flower:Semparuthi/ red hibiscus and kumkum flowers , Parijaatham can also be used in worship .

Neivedhyam:Coconut rice or Ellu sadham ./ sesame rice

Thithi:sashti

Kolam:kadalai maavinaal Devi naamathai kolamida vendum (Write the name of the goddess using Bengal gram flour.)

Raagam:Neelaambari raga is most auspicious today .

Slokam: Om Kajathvajaayai vidhmahe

Navarathri Day 7

It is believed that the Godess appears as Annapoorani today .She is also worshipped as Saraswathi .Usually flowersw ith fragramce are used to make rangolis / kolams , the Godess is decked in yellow sapphire ornaments.

Flower:Malligai & mullai/ Thazhamboo/ Jasmine

Neivedhyam:Lemon rice or even vellai sadham , kalkandu sadham or sakkarai pongal can be ogffered as Neivediyam .Chickpeas sundal can be prepared .

Thithi:Sapthami

Kolam:Narumana malargalaal kolamida vendum (Draw rangoli by using fragrant flowers-pookolam.)

Raagam:Bilahari

Slokam: Om Vaakdevyai vidhmahe

Navarathri Day 8

On this day the Godess is worshipped as Narasimhi or Durga .Aftyer slaying the demon Raktabeejan she appears as Karunamoorthy ., use flowers to make kolams / rangolis in Lotus design .

Flower:Roja/ rose/ magizham can be used for pooja .

Neivedhyam: Paayasaannam/ paal sadham /appam are auspicious as neivediyams .

Thithi:ashtami

Kolam:padma kolam (Draw traditional lotus shaped rangoli)

Raagam:punnagavaraali, songs in this raga will be ideal for the day .

Slokam: Om Magisha mardhinyai vidhmahe

The last day of Navarathri is for Godess Chamundi . Decorate her with arrow, bow and ankusham , and corn . in the form of Lalitha Parameshwari .Draw designs of the weapons using fragrant powders , and ,adornm teh Godess in diamond jewellery .

Flower:Thaamarai/ lotus and Marikozhunthu are considered very auspiciosu for pooja .

Neivedhyam:Akaaravadisil, Ellu sadham,konda kadalai sundal/chickpeas sundal,

Thithi:navami

Kolam:Vaasanai podigalal aayudham pola kola mida vendum (Draw weapon shaped rangoli by using fragrant powder.)

Raagam:vasantha raagam. Songs in this raga are considered very pleasing to the Godess.

Slokam: Om Krishna varnaayai vidhmahe

On this day the Godess takes the form of Devi Vijaya

Godess Shailaputri

People worship Devi Shailaputri on the first day. On the first day, people propitiate her to attain the highest state of consciousness.

Brahmacharini

Devi Brahmachirini is the holy form of Devi Parvati in which she undertook penance to have Lord Shiva as her consort. This day is especially sacred to meditate and explore people’s inner divinity.

Godess Chandraghanta

Devi Chandraghanta is the presiding Devi on the third day of Navratri. The day is all about withdrawing from all vagaries of the minds, with a significant focus on the Mother Divine.

Godess Kushmanda

People worship Devi Kushmanda on the fourth day of Navratri. On this day, people worship Devi Kushmanda, and she blesses everyone with her divine energy.

Devi Skandamata

On the fifth day, people worship Devi Parvati’s motherly aspect, Devi Skandamata. She brings an abundance of wealth, power, prosperity, and wisdom.

Devi Katyayani

People worship Devi Katyayani on the sixth day to put to rest all their inner foes that are obstacles on the journey of spiritual evolution.

Devi Kalarathri

Devi Kalartri is one infinite dark energy that lights and houses many universes. Thus, Devi Kalartri represents the dark night.

Devi Mahagauri

Devi Mahagauri symbolises a serene and beautiful aspect of Nature. She is that energy that spreads into lives and liberates people.

Devi Siddhidhatri

Devi Siddhidatri makes the impossible possible. She takes people beyond the logical mind to explore the realm beyond space and time.
