Instant rasam mix Dhideer rasam

Instant rasam is a quick and convenient option for those with busy lifestyles. The handy mix is traditional with South Indian flavors without the time-consuming preparation of traditional rasam.

A lifesaver for individuals who might not have access to a fully equipped kitchen. They provide a hassle-free way for bachelors, students, dorm kids, and travelers to enjoy a comforting and flavorful meal without the need for elaborate cooking skills or ingredients.

Ingredients for Rasam mix

1/4 cup coriander seeds

1/4 cup toor dal

Red chilies about 10 ( mix of Byadagi and spicy red chilies )

1 tbsp pepper

1 tsp mustard seeds

2 tbsp cumin seeds

Big lemon size Tamrind chopped into pieces

Few curry leaves

1 tsp oil to fry a small piece of solid asafoetida

Add dry roasted tempering to the mix

1 tbsp mustard seeds

1/2 tbsp cumin seeds

Method :

  • Dry roast the coriander seeds, toor dal , red chilies , pepper , cumin , mustard in a pan just for a minute or two to just become warm .

  • Do not roast till they change colour etc .

  • We just need to make them dry enough .

  • As soon as they become warm ( not hot ) remove immediately.

  • Add 1 tsp oil , allow the asafoetida to fry , remove .

  • In the same pan , roast the Tamrind pieces till they seem little brittle .

  • Do not allow it to become charred .

  • In the same heat dry roast the curry leaves . Set aside .

  • Next dry roast the tempering of mustard seeds , cumin , few curry leaves . Set aside .

  • Let all ingredients become cool .

  • Transfer the roasted ingredients for rasam mix to a mixie jar including Tamrind and curry leaves .

  • Blend to a coarse powder .

  • Set aside the powder onto a plate to cool.

  • Add the dry roasted tempering of mustard seeds , cumin seeds , few roasted curry leaves to the preoared dry mix . Store in an airtight container.

To prepare instant rasam :

1. Chop 2-3 tangy tomatoes to pieces .

2. Add to a pan , add 1 cup water , salt , pinch of turmeric powder. Add 2 tbsp of prepared Rasam mix , stir well .

3. Allow to boil till tomatoes are mushy .

4. Add more water to adjust consistency, allow to come to a gentle boil .

5. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

6. Add 1 tsp ghee to hot rasam for flavour . ( optional )

7. Enjoy a delicious rasam with hot steaming rice . 😋😋
