Aaloo Tariwale
Aaloo Tariwale or Tari wale Aaloo is undeniably our favorite at home when we have no choice but to try a potato recipe which is a sure hit. Totally irresistible and a great hit with all members , rotis and phulkas will disappear in no time if this is prepared.
This is tempting tasty recipe that has simple everyday ingredients and no real chore involved.
Make this either as a one pot dish , all in the pressure cooker or in a open stove top method.It woks well in a pressure cooker as you save time.
The most preferred method is the microwave which is even more quicker and a quick cook and serve kind of dish. So choose your method.
Ingredients:
4 medium potatoes
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp coriander power
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
2 tbsp oil
Pinch of asafoetida
Pinch of turmeric powder
½ tsp of anardana powder ( pomegranate powder )
Salt to taste
2 big tomatoes
2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander leaves
3 cups of water
Method
Wash and peel potatoes and cut into 1 ½ inch cubes and keep them in water.
Take a pressure cooker or a wide open pan if doing in a pan.
Add the oil and when heated add cumin seeds, taking care not to darken them, when it sizzles, add the chopped tomatoes or use tomato puree and sauté well in oil for few minutes till you see the oil leaving the sides .
Then add the cubed potatoes, all the remaining ingredients, the red chilli powder, asafoetida powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, anardaana powder, salt, turmeric powder.
Add water and pressure cooker upto three whistles.
When cooled open the lid , mash some pieces of cooked potatoes to thicken the gravy, add the chopped coriander leaves, serve hot with poris or rotis.
If fresh tomatoes are not available , can be made with tomato puree too.This can be prepared in an open pan too .
Keep the lid on till the potatoes cook well, then stir it well, mash some potatoes to thicken.
A great side dish for phulkas, rotis and rice.
