Raw rice idli / Pacharsi idli

Pacharsi Idli / raw rice idli

Pacharsi idli or raw rice idlis are very popular as Neivediyam idlis for festival such as Ganesh Chaturthi where along with rice Kozhukkatai , raw rice idlis are also prepared . Raw rice can be steamed in a cooker to give the exact same texture and feel of idlis prepared by using idli rice .

However for Ganesh Chaturthi we just grind the rice and udad dal without any steaming preparation.

For the purpose of preparing idlis on normal days we can soak raw rice in hot water for upto 3-4 hours .

Recipe :

2 cups raw rice washed and soaked in hot water for 3-4 hours

1 cup udad dal washed and soaked for 3 hours .

1 tsp methi seeds

Method :

Firstly Grind udad dal and methi seeds to a smooth shiny thick batter

Next Grind rice to a smooth slightly grainy batter .

Mix both batters well , cover and keep for fermentation.

After fermentation, add salt , mix gently , grease idli plates with oil , add batter in each mould .

Furthermore steam for 7-8 minutes or till done .

Serve these soft idlis with preferred accompaniment.,
