Apple berry crumble is very tasty , delcious and healthy, as even though this  crumble falls in the dessert category, the choice of ingredients is very healthy and uses lots of apples, berries and nuts . The topping is itself a healthy crumble using rolled oats and no refined sugar added .

Very easy to bake as a single serving in ramekins or In a baking dish . Any crumble is usually served either warm or chilled either with a dollop of ice cream ( for kids specially )!or fresh thick yogurt . It makes an excellent dessert with custard too .
The best part about making any crumble is there is no special baking technique involved even your kids can do it in a microwave .
Just two simple steps . Cook the apples or any fruit with some juice and flavors . Prepare the oats crumble , scatter on top of the fruit and bake till golden and bubbly till the berries almost ooze out of the crumble topping , maximum 25 – 30 minutes .
Good for first time bakers and it gives the look and feel of an exotic baked dish .

For the filling at the base.

6 small apples either Fuji or golden delicious., 1/2 cup berries of your choice, i used dried blue berries
1 cup ( 250 ml ) apple juice
1 tsp vanilla extract
A pinch of cinnamon powder.
1 tsp orange zest
2 tbsp brown sugar

Ingredients for crumble topping.

1 ¼ cup rolled oats
¼ cup coconut flakes
Pinch of cinnamon powder
3 tbsp honey
3 tbsp ghee ( melted butter)
¼ cup chopped nuts like almonds, walnuts .


Wash the apples, and chop them to smaller bits with their skin, remove the core and seeds.
Take a heavy pan, place all the apple chunks, pour the apple juice, vanilla extract, cinnamon powder and orange zest.
Cover and cook till apples become soft and the the mixture appears a little thick. This may take about 15 minutes. 

Towards the end add the dried berries to soften them a bit.
To make the crumble.
Combine the oats, coconut flakes, cinnamon powder, honey, ghee ( melted butter) and the chopped nuts in a blender to pulse to a crumble. 

Taste the prepared crumble and adjust the more sweetness if desired.
Meanwhile preheat oven to 160 degrees C / 315 F
Choose a suitable baking pan or ramekins for individual servings , pile the prepared apple berry mixture in to the pan.
Sprinkle the prepared crumble over the apple berry mixture evenly, sprinkle some brown sugar on top for a lovely caramel effect .
Bake for 30 minutes till the top looks golden and the berries seem to be gooey. Your delicious apple berry crumble is ready to be served.
Serve this delicious crumble with ice cream , wither warm or chilled.
It tastes amazing with fresh yogurt, custard too.
You can turn this simple delicious dessert into a healthier one by choosing healthy ingredients,  skip ice cream in favor of yogurt while serving.
The use of sweetness in this dessert is very minimal.
